When are quarterly estimated taxes due in the US?
Short answer
Federal estimated taxes are generally due April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15. Accurate monthly books help you calculate payments and avoid underpayment penalties.
Detailed answer
Use the correct taxpayer calendar
The common April, June, September and January dates relate to many calendar-year individual estimated payments, not every taxpayer or business. Fiscal-year taxpayers, corporations and certain special cases use different rules. Weekend, holiday and disaster-relief adjustments can also change a particular year's due date.
Calculate from more than cash
Use current profit estimates together with withholding, credits and prior-year tax to review payment needs with your adviser. State estimated taxes are separate. Keep confirmation of each payment and reconcile it to the correct tax account; the business bank balance alone is not a reliable estimate of the tax due.
